The Big Island of Hawaii's underwater volcanic craters and lava tubes create a playground for Spinner Dolphin, Frogfish, Sharks and an endless list of endemic fish, including several species of Butterfly Fish. Join SeaTrek as we venture far from the reach of day operators to beautiful South Point, the southernmost tip of Hawaii and the United States, weather permitting. Here you may encounter the rare Longnose Hawkfish, which hides among the Black Coral, Dragon Eels, Spanish Dancers and Hawaii's own Turkeyfish, a cousin to the prickly Lionfish. You will delight in the comical displays put on by Green Sea Turtles at the Turtle Cleaning Station. One of the week's many highlights is the famous Manta Ray night dive. Soaring Mantas glide within feet of divers' masks during one of your night dives. Whale Sharks, Dolphins, Pilot Whales, Hammerheads and more! Each cabin features double or quad accomodations, a private head w/shower (unlimited fresh water) and A/C. There are even hot freshwater showers on the dive deck and warm towels after each dive. Did I mention the hot tub on the sun deck? Plan on 5 dives a day except for the last day where we will do 2 dives for a total of 27 planned dives. There will be a Pacific Reef Fish ID Class, a presentation on volcanos and Nitrox Certification will be available (this is contracted out at $150).
Then spend 12 days ashore at a private 5 bedroom residence with an ocean view and pool! On this portion of the voyage you will have the opportunity to get community service hours by volunteering at the exotic game hospital or by working with the local United Way teaching sailing to local kids. We will explore the Hawaii Volcanos National Park including Kilauea Volacano area hiking out to the lava flows. Go to the observatory at Mauna Kea, spend a day on a 25 foot Zodiac (Redboat's big brother) observing pods (150 to 200 animals) of dolphins, hike down to Pololu Valley, Parasail, Zipline, take Hula Lessons, kayak Kealakekua Bay (Capt. Cook Monument) with the dolphins swimming along side, hike to the summit of Hualalai and explore hidden waterfalls. The tentative plan is that we would all meet in LA and travel out to the Big Island as a group.....depending on where you live flights are $500 to $900 r/t. We will once again ask Debbie Whalen to help us with flights.
Like all other SeaTrek Voyages this one will be led by either Captain Kat or Captain Monk. Both lived/worked (Captained the boat we are going on) in Hawaii for several years and know the island intimately. You will need to supply your own dive equipment (BCD/Reg) including a dive light and minimum 3mm Full Wetsuit with Tropical Hood and gloves. If you don't already have your own gear it is available for rental ($120) (except wetsuit/gloves/hoodie). All meals, a dive computer (yours to keep), transfers, excursions, gratuities (yes, we have to tip the local tour operaters 20%), diving, kayak rentals, housing, taxes, fuel charges and classes (other than Nitrox) are included. You need only bring personal spending monies and your $100 in emergency funds....there is no departure tax due at the airport on departure. Your personal health insurance will work in Hawaii. We are going to ask that everyone get the TravMark Insurance as well....you never know what might happen.
Program cost is $5800. Due to the nature of the charter bookings we are not able to offer any discounts or apply any credits.
There are only 12 berths available....period. There has been lots of interest in this voyage which is understandable. We will take deposits for a wait list but the first 12 people that place a deposit or commit to a deposit by phone or email get the available spots. I know a lot of folks missed out on the Bahamas Trip this year because word leaked out and we want to try and avoid that this year.
Join us for an unforgettable adventure in Hawaii. Aloha!
