| SeaTrek BVI is a family oriented program; we are parents too, there for you as well as your children. When you call on the phone you will talk with the same people that are on the boats with your children during the summer…us, Captains Monk and Kat Daniel.
When SeaTrek BVI was first conceived we made a pledge to stay committed to the idea of growing the quality verses the quantity of our summer camping programs. In other words we are dedicated to staying small and personal. Our small size allows us to offer your children what they deserve as well as allow us to go places the other guys can’t because of their size. We take 36 participants at a time… most of the other programs will take 150 to 200 participants at a time. We have often asked the other program directors how they can keep up with so many children…. their responses have consistently been “I can’t”.
The standards to which we hold our staff are of the highest caliber because that is what our students deserve. All interactions are centered on a system of values that include honesty, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, and respect.
We have developed a balanced routine of packing our mornings, afternoons, and evenings full of educational outings and activities so that your child will never have the chance to feel bored, homesick, or tempted to get into trouble! At the same time, we don’t cram so much into the day that your child is left feeling overwhelmed.
We operate our dive training under the umbrella of NAUI instruction. Most of our dive instructors are past students of the program and are experts on both the skills and diving conditions we encounter every day. NAUI is the “Oldest Scuba Training Agency in the Country” their motto is “Dive Safety thru Education.” We are also the only program with two Course Directors and three Instructor Trainers on staff as well as three American Sailing Association (ASA) sailing instructors.
In the evenings when most programs have non-structured free time (an idle mind is the devil’s playground) we set up activities on the beach, lead biology snorkels, and of course roll out the water sports boats to pull students on their choice of water toys! Each boat has a dedicated water sports boat in tow… that way your child can be assured of the opportunity to participates in water sports if they so desire. We also have ocean kayaks and wind surfers on board with staff who know how to teach your child how to safely use them. We don’t just tell you that we do water sports…. we do water sports!
Students are engaged in everything on the boat! From charting and sailing to snorkeling, free diving and scuba, all the way to meal preparation and boat cleaning. Each student get the chance to be the “skipper” for the day, learning valuable leadership skills. Our students literally run the boat on which they live and leave our program with a wealth of yachting knowledge and self-sufficiency.
We take our 3:1 student to staff ration extremely serious. This is the only way we can be sure students are always supervised and on track with our program expectations. It also alleviates the staff burn out that plagues other programs where counselors are trying to keeping up with a 4:1 or 6:1 ratio.
With a minimum of four staff onboard, each boat is operated by a USCG licensed captain, not just some college kid who knows how to drive a boat and goes by "Skipper". Each boat also has a dedicated marine biologist and a dedicated NAUI scuba instructor as well as a deckhand who has a minimum certification of Dive Master. All are Rescue Diver and CPR/1st Aid Certified with most being CPR/1st Aid Instructors. We also employ two EMTs for the program.
Plus, we aren't stuck in a rut. We are always adding to and adapting our program so that year after year we provide an exciting and unforgettable experience for new campers and returning students alike. We do this because we enjoy working with your children!
Sincerely,
Captains Monk and Kat Daniel and the SeaTrek Crew |
