Why SeaTrek BVI stands apart from other sailing/diving/marine science programs:

2005SeaTrek BVI is a family oriented program; we are parents too, there for you as well as your children. When you call on the phone you will talk with the same people that are on the boats with your children during the summer…us, Captains Monk and Kat Daniel.

When SeaTrek BVI was first conceived we made a pledge to stay committed to the idea of growing the quality verses the quantity of our summer camping programs.  In other words we are dedicated to staying small and personal.  Our small size allows us to tailor the program to each individual student as well as allow us to go places the other guys can't because of their size.  We take 48 participants at a time, whereas most of the other programs will take 150 to 200 participants at a time.   Our group of four boats is a tight knit community on the water rather than a fleet of fifteen or more boats.  That way your child leaves with 48 new close friends rather then meeting people for the first time on his flight home that he went to the same camp with for the past three weeks.

We operate our dive training under the umbrella of NAUI instruction rather than PADI. NAUI is the "Oldest Scuba Training Agency in the Country" their motto is "Dive Safety thru Education."  NAUI also employs a more student friendly teaching method that encourages new divers to build confidence in the water and achieve above and beyond the required skill sets.  Additionally, most of our dive instructors are past students of the program and are experts on both the skills and diving conditions we encounter every day.   As eager as the students are to learn more about diving and the marine environment, our instructors are eager to teach!  We are also the only program with two Course Directors and three Instructor Trainers on staff as well as three American Sailing Association (ASA) sailing instructors.  Clearly, we strive to have an extremely qualified and diverse teaching staff.

In that same vein, we have a minimum of four staff onboard each boat and take our 3:1 student to staff ratio extremely seriously, so as to provide adequate supervision and accessibility.  Each boat is operated by a USCG licensed captain, has a dedicated marine biologist and a dedicated NAUI scuba instructor as well as a deckhand who has a minimum certification of Dive Master. All are Rescue Diver and CPR/1st Aid Certified with most being CPR/1st Aid Instructors.  We also employ a paramedic and two EMTs for the program. The standards to which we hold our staff are of the highest caliber because that is what our students deserve.  All interactions are centered on a system of values that include honesty, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, and respect.

We have developed a balanced routine of packing our mornings, afternoons, and evenings full of educational outings and activities so that your child will never have the chance to feel bored, homesick, or tempted to get into trouble!  At the same time, we don't cram so much into the day that your child is left feeling overwhelmed.

In the evenings (an idle mind is the devil's playground) we set up activities on the beach, lead biology snorkels, hold marine biology focused seminars/QandA, and even have the occasional movie night!  Of course, we always make time to roll out the water sports boats to pull students on their choice of water toys!  Each boat has a dedicated water sports boat in tow…that way your child can be assured of the opportunity to participate in water sports if they so desire.  We also have ocean kayaks and wind surfers on board with staff who know how to teach your child how to safely use them.  We don't just tell you that we do water sports….we do water sports!

Students are engaged in everything on the boat! From charting and sailing to snorkeling, free diving and scuba, all the way to meal preparation and boat cleaning. Each student is given the chance to be the "skipper" for the day, learning valuable leadership skills.  Our students literally run the boat on which they live and leave our program with a wealth of yachting knowledge and a perfect balance of self-sufficiency and cooperation skills.

Finally, we are always adding to and adapting our program so that year after year we provide an exciting and unforgettable experience for new campers and returning students alike.  We do this because we enjoy working with your children!

So, please, stop by our website and look over all the options we have to offer for the upcoming summer.  And, feel free to call with any questions, as we are here for you!

Sincerely,

Captains Monk and Kat Daniel and the SeaTrek Crew
